Long Cast

Long Cast  12x16 oil painting, fly fishing art (Sold)

This painting is about the wonderful solitude of being in a place like this, whether its walking thru the woods and observing the multitude of trees or listening to the sounds of the stream as you patiently wait for the trout to show themselves. After a day of this you feel so refreshed.
I used backlighting to echo the colors of the trout into the landscape they live in.
And our fly fisherman is poised for the strike.

Flyfishing trip to southcentral Pa.

This was one of the three streams we visited yesterday. I did a sketch of Big Spring Run, my brother Tom managed to catch this nice rainbow trout. We have been fishing together since he was 14 years old. Thirty years later we are still going strong.

Little Lehigh Creek

Little Lehigh Creek 9x12 acrylic $210.00 unframed
The Little Lehigh is in Allentown, Pa., its about a hours drive from us. Its loaded with trout and they are very finicky. Tiny flies tied to light leaders is whats needed to catch the educated fish that live here. It gets fished hard all year so they have seen everything. In this scene a trout rises on the far side and catches the flyfishermans attention.

Autumn the Season of Change

I think October is my favorite month. Not only for the explosion of color from the trees, but the fishing is in high gear in the trout streams this time of year. The trout 's mating colors start matching the color of the leaves. My brother Tom and I have been taking a trip up to northcentral Pa. every October since the early 80's. We fish streams like Slate Run, Young Womans Creek, Cedar Run, Spring Creek, Kettle Creek and the list goes on. All those years except for the last three we camped in a tent, cooked our meals over a fire, sat and talked around the campfire all night. Alot of those years it rained at least two or three days out of the week. Now we rent a modern cabin, eat indoors ,sleep on beds, stay dry. We are older now.
