White Iris 12"x4" oil on canvas.
This is one of the Iris's in my wife's garden. I like the way they grow and wanted to balance their form within the canvas. I thought about the 4"x12" canvas I had on the shelf and decided to try that.
I painted this in the yard but lost the sunlight as I got a quarter of the way into it. I was not happy with the result so I took it inside and did some experimenting with the background and then adjusted the shades of white on the iris.

I like the long format and have been waiting for the iris too. This is lovely and conveys their strength and delicate bloom.
I rather like the soft light you captured. It befits the subtlety of the flower with detracting at all from its majesty.
Your landscapes are lovely, too. I can see Bucks County - and almost feel as if I am back there.
Thanks Mary.
Thank you for the kind comments Patrice.
